Gestalt Psychotherapy

What is Gestalt?

Gestalt means shape or pattern. Gestalt therapists are interested in the shapes that we as humans make as we adjust to the world around us. Behavioural patterns may arise that have protected us in the past but are no longer helpful in the present. By bringing them into awareness, we can begin to change.

Often, this might begin with the body. I might ask you what you are noticing in terms of your posture, breathing, movement, or sensation. Or I might share my observations of you and how it impacts me. Gestalt is dialogic – an authentic exchange between two people. I won’t assume I know what your experience is. I will bring curiosity, support and creativity to help you explore your experience without needing to rush into meaning-making. We will take into account the field conditions that might be influencing you such as culture, family norms, wider society and other forces. Everything that you bring is rich material to work with.

It isn’t essential that you know exactly why you are considering therapy. It may simply be an awareness of a deep need to be heard. What brings you to therapy is something we can explore together as you begin to feel supported by the therapeutic process.

I have supported my clients with a wide range of issues, such as depression, loneliness, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, abuse, relationship issues, stress, and bereavement. I have a special interest in neurodiversity, and eco-anxiety.

I offer 1 hour sessions in a the beautiful grounds of a retreat centre n Pembrokeshire, near St Davids, and in central Cardiff. I also offer online sessions from the comfort of your own home. Some clients like to alternate between all three modes.

Sessions are £40 per hour with some concessionary rates available. Please get in touch if you would like more information or to book a consultation: sarah.therapy@proton.me
