Natural Weaving

The Growing Together Art-in-Nature group that I facilitate weekly at the community allotment in Cardiff began a new project recently, creating a loom from salvaged willow staves. Participants foraged for natural materials: Ivy, conifer, bay leaves, catkins, wisteria, bamboo, buddleia, and honeysuckle were all woven onto the loom.

This is an ongoing collaborative project that can be added to as the seasons unfold and more plants come into bloom. These woven frames will be placed around the gardens that are currently being developed thanks to funding support from Cardiff and Vale Health Charity and The National Lottery Community Fund. Participants from the Probation Service have been making paths and accessible raised beds around our lovely Art Shed in preparation for spring planting.

The finished panel hung as a screen to hide the water tank.
